Making Mondays More Fun for the Kids!

No matter what age we are at, weekends are always awesome but even more so for our little ones! They have their parents’ attention, and they don’t have to get up early for school. This means that they may end up dreading going back to school every Monday morning and this dread may seep into Sunday evenings for both parents and children.

We have 5 simple things that you can start implementing today to have more pleasant Mondays!

1. Sunday Night Bedtime Routine

Routine is so important for children, and you should already have a bedtime routine in place. You will see that your Monday mornings will be more convenient and with fewer tears and tantrums if your child gets enough sleep.

The weekends can mess up your schedule but make sure to stick to your night-time routine!

2. Find Things for Your Child to be Excited About

If you’re not a Monday person, then you probably understand how important it is to find something to look forward to! The same thing applies to your child. Do they have a friend they enjoy spending time with at school or a favorite teacher? Maybe you can promise them a treat after school or a chance to pick out their own outfit. Pick whatever you know your child will enjoy and look forward to. This way every Monday turns into a day they look forward to!

3. Make Mondays Special

Mondays have got a bad rep – people are always hating on Mondays. Yes, they signify the end of the weekend but if you want your Mondays to be more fun for your kids you’re going to have to do something to make that happen. Make Mondays a day to celebrate – make special meals. Do something your child really loves. This way this notoriously “bad day” can become a special one for your family!

4. Focus on the Positive

Positive thinking and positive speech are things that should already be a staple in your home. Remember that your children in their earlier years are sponges – they absorb everything you say and everything you do. If you are negative about Mondays, they too will be negative in the way they know home. Keeping a positive mindset goes a long way! Start your Monday mornings with positive affirmations likes “It’s a brand-new week!” and “This is going to be an amazing week!”

4. Set Weekly Goals

This is a practice that will have your children succeed as they grow. By setting goals you create something they can learn to embrace. This is an activity the whole family can do. Each of you can pledge to achieve a certain goal!

Remember to make the goals achievable and make sure at least one of the goals you set is achievable on a Monday. When each goal is achieved have the kids stick a gold star and reward them when they successfully reach their goals! Doing this will create a tradition in your home that your kids will be looking forward to!

And start on a Monday – this way Monday becomes the fun day of the week!
